The Center for the Study of the Public Domain at Duke University has produced a clever comic book that exquisitely describes the complicated landscape of copyright law in an entertaining and easy to understand storyline.

The comic book is available for free in digital formats, or $5.95 to purchase in print on Amazon. Anyone interested in comics would likely find the book entertaining, and those wanting to learn more about copyright law and share with others will find the book an invaluable resource.

Picnik.com Offers Free Online Photo Editing by Google

Picnik.com, recently purchased by Google, is a free online photo editing website that offers advanced editing features at economical pricing. Yet many people will do fine with their basic editing controls. The photo shown here was modified from the original (below) using the pencil sketch feature of Picnik.

Picnik is a nice resource for artists to have in their virtual toolkit.

If you like combining traditional drawing with additional digital special effects, then Picnik is for you.

Google is one of the most prominent companies offering cloud-based computing — computer programs that run on the web within your browser. The advantage to cloud-based computing is that you don’t need to constantly upgrade your programs to the latest version. That’s done automatically for you. If you choose to store files online, then your files are backed up for you as well.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (review)

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is probably one of those movies you’ll either love or hate, but all will agree that the movie charts new territory as an adaptation of the comic book series Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O’Malley. Set in Toronto, Canada, the movie stars Michael Cera and a lineup of other new talent.

With ratings of 8.2 out of 10 on IMDB and 81% on Rotton Tomatoes, it seems the movie has gained considerable acceptance among many. The official Scott Pilgrim movie website offers tools for fans to help with viral marketing of the movie and serves as a portal into various social networks. There’s even a Pilgrim’s Punch-Out app for the Apple  iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.

Various remixes on YouTube are likely to be popular with the YouTube culture where remixes are usually seen as a sign of acceptance. These official remixes are probably designed to seed further viral videos about the movie. Trailers and other clips are available on the official YouTube channel.
